The main way from Bristol is GWR from Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central, about 50 minutes with three stops, then Transport for Wales’s Pembroke Dock train to Tenby, which takes about 2h45. How long the whole trip takes depends on the connection at Cardiff: the typical journey on a weekday took about 4h10, and the quickest about 3h40. Most of that time is the second leg, as the Pembroke Dock train makes 20 stops between Cardiff Central and Tenby.
On the typical journey you spend around 35 minutes at Cardiff Central, but some connections are much tighter, which is why the quickest trip was half an hour shorter. Departures from Temple Meads that connected this way were at 05:20, 07:56, 09:28, 11:58, 13:25, 14:57 and 17:24, the last of them getting to Tenby at about 21:35. The Tenby trains from Cardiff run only about every two hours, so a missed connection there is expensive, and on the tighter changes there is little room for a late GWR train.
A pattern via Bristol Parkway and Neath, with two changes instead of one, took just under four hours on the timetable we checked, a little quicker than the typical Cardiff connection. Those journeys left at roughly two-hour intervals between 07:40 and 17:38, so the extra change buys a modest saving and a slightly different set of times. Routings via Port Talbot Parkway, Bridgend, Cheltenham Spa or Whitland all took longer, from about 4h10 to just over five hours.
By car the 131 miles via the M4 take about 2h30, well over an hour less than the typical rail journey from Temple Meads.
Tenby station lies roughly ten minutes on foot from Tudor Square, around 650 metres away.
